Almost one in two businesses is risking productivity by not updating its IT systems, according to recent research.
The study, by BizHelp24, found that 49 per cent of respondents admit to using old technology, while only 24.8 per cent of small business owners said they do not need to update their systems at all.
Ironically the findings clash with a previous survey carried out just six months ago by BizHelp24 in which a large number of employees said that slow and/or unreliable computers are the biggest cause of frustration in the office.
Colin Duguid, managing director of BizHelp24, said: "Whilst older computers may still do the job, they can be slow and unreliable; and are more likely to break down, disrupting your business.
"Businesses that have invested in good technology may be justified in keeping it for several years, but it is worrying that so many businesses say they do not need to update their technology at all," he added.
BizHelp24 also offer other reasons why upgrading technology can be beneficial to business owners, including the fact that technology becomes more unreliable as it gets older, new printers and faxes are cheaper to run and also as technology gets smaller businesses can gain more office space.
The survey questioned the owners and managers of over 360 small businesses. |
