Next generation networks are increasingly being adopted by hyper-connected businesses as they seek to support their high-bandwidth needs, it has been revealed.
According to Infonetics Research, spending on ethernet services is projected to generate $17 billion (£11.5 billion) in revenue this year and eclipse the internet protocol multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) virtual private network (VPN) services market in size.
Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder at the firm, said: "Ethernet is becoming the technology of choice for businesses that need to increase their network speed and capacity while keeping an eye on the bottom line."
Communications solutions provider Nortel added that simplifying network operations and increasing capacity with Enhanced VPN services, enterprises can take greater advantage of hyper-connectivity.
Earlier this week, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported claims by Claris Networks that typically firms must have an internet connection which provides a minimum one megabit per second upload speed.
The group went on to say MPLS can provide enterprises with the bandwidth required to take advantage of cloud computing.
