.gif) Those wanting to adopt document management services should look to internet fax in the quest for a paperless office, according to an expert.
Mae Kowalke, senior editor at TMCnet, said many devices, such as smartphones, laptops and scanners, have helped to reduce the amount of physical paper in an office, but firms are still looking to reduce this.
She points out little has been done to combat the paper waste arising from fax use, with some companies still opting to use this form over email.
The solution for these businesses is to use an internet-based fax service, whereby the information is sent to the user in a PDF or TIFF format and can be saved to the hard drive, Ms Kowalke suggested.
If needed, the document can still be printed and filed, but much of the physical paper use is reduced.
Ms Kowalke also points out this document management system is more secure than other methods as the fax cannot get into the wrong hands.
