Making use of large managed data centres is more secure that storing information on a server in an office, it has been claimed.
Dan Scarfe, the chief executive of software development firm Dot Net Solutions, said that cloud servers can offer new security for organisations.
He continued: "Some of the smartest guys in the world set up all of these data centres and the buildings themselves have huge amounts of security 24-seven."
Mr Scarfe went on to say new "massive data centres" are very well protected both physically and from an infrastructure point of view.
He concluded that it is safer for businesses to keep their data in the cloud than in their office.
Last month, Microsoft announced the release of the Azure Services Platform, which includes service-based implementations of familiar .NET framework concepts such as workflow and access control.
The product also provides low-level scalable storage, computation and networking services.
