Bosses at one public body have invested in managed IP services to help cut their carbon footprint and unite their various telephony systems.
Natural England's new end-to-end telephony services are to serve 44 sites and 2,500 users, encompassing an IP VPN to deliver hosted IP telephony and managed videoconferencing, among other services.
"On examining how to merge our telephony estates, we conducted in-depth analysis on the best approach, best supplier and benefits we could deliver back to the organisation," said Barney Smith, head of knowledge management and information services at Natural England.
"We estimate that the cost of this installation will be approximately £1 million, with a potential return of £3.2 million over the next five years," he continued.
"Most of this will come from reduced travel expenditures, while videoconferencing will yield savings of 20,000 man-days and two million miles of car journeys."
Last week, managed IP services specialist Vincent Potier affirmed that investing in managed VoIP services is a key way for businesses to cut costs and boost efficiency. |
