Managed IT outsourcing will remain protected from global financial turmoil, although demand for IT support services is expected to suffer in the economic crisis, it has been claimed.
Research carried out by industry analyst IDC indicates the IT services market will only grow by 2.6 per cent in 2009 and by an average of 4.1 per cent over the next five years.
The group added that although few effects of the downturn were felt in the first half of 2008, the third quarter saw uncertainty creep into the sector.
Laura Converso, research manager for IDC European Software and Services, said: ''We expect demand for IT services to suffer for at least the next 18 months and that project services … will be hit strongly, while some outsourcing and managed services may even benefit."
Earlier this month, technology consultancy EquaTerra conducted research indicating enterprises can make use of managed IT outsourcing to upgrade infrastructure cost-effectively in the current financial climate.
