Managed IT outsourcing is more likely to be done by domestic firms than carried out offshore in the current financial crisis, it has been claimed.
Research carried out by IT industry analyst IDC indicates the global contact centre industry is moving increasingly towards home-based IT support as they attempt to increase productivity while cutting costs.
Stephen Loynd, programme manager for contact centre services research at the company, said: "By the time we emerge from a possibly severe global recession, homeshoring will have developed into a more formidable sibling to offshoring than many would have expected just a few years ago."
Last week, research carried out by IT consultancy EquaTerra suggested the popularity of IT outsourcing is likely to increase as a result of the economic downturn.
The group claimed end-users are likely to continue the shift away from the use of project-based contract labour in favour of longer-term, formalised outsourcing relationships.
