Master data management (MDM) is one of the fastest-growing segments of the software development industry, it has been revealed.
Studies carried out by IT industry analyst Gartner indicate the necessity for firms to increase the effectiveness of their database development, while reducing costs and meeting compliance requirements, is driving the take-up of MDM technologies.
Chad Eschinger, research director at the company, said the facility can help organisations achieve and maintain a single view of their managed data centres across an enterprise, enabling IT initiatives to perform more coherently.
He added: "The technology continues to mature and has great potential for enabling more-efficient and effective business processes in the future."
Last week, editor of DatacenterDynamics Focus Ambrose McNevin, claimed there is a "raging debate" over the energy efficiency of managed data centres.
He added that comments made by Google that it runs the world's greenest data centres is a direct challenge to the rest of the data warehousing industry.
