Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) can provide enterprises with the bandwidth required to take advantage of cloud computing, it has been claimed.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported comments made by Claris Networks chief executive Paul Sponcia that the bandwidth needed by companies depends on the applications the customer uses, but typically a firm must have a connection that provides a minimum one megabit per second upload speed.
He went on to recommend making use of MPLS, saying: "The faster [the connection] the better, and a private, non-internet connection is the best."
The news provider added that the technology uses a newer internet protocol that can transfer information more efficiently and is able to prioritise traffic directly on the network.
Last week, communications unit New Edge Networks won the 2008 Communications Innovator Award presented by research and consulting firm New Paradigm Resources Group and Pipeline magazine for its development melding MPLS with digital subscriber line footprints.
