Virtualisation of storage is not catching on as quickly as many people predicted, according to a research analyst.
Forrester researchers have said the majority of companies have not opted for virtualisation of their storage, reports ITPro.
Andrew Reichman, a research analyst at the company, said: "Virtualisation of storage is tepid. I would characterise it as tepid."
Research from the company found that only 17 per cent of companies have virtualised their storage, with nine per cent being in the process of doing so.
A further 28 per cent are interested in the idea, but as yet have not adopted it.
Mr Reichman stated that many companies may be wary until more firms choose to adopt the technology, adding that they may be concerned about it "disrupting their data".
It was recently reported that virtualisation of servers can cause major security risks like data theft and denial of service, according to a talk at the Black Hat DC 2008 conference.
