New research indicates that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are set to increase their IT spending by ten per cent over the coming 12 months.
Market watcher AMI predicts that storage and security convergence will be the main factors pushing growth in the sector, with many SMEs willing to make more use of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) too.
Adding weight to this latter prediction was IP telephony vendor Swyx's recent survey that found many SMEs were impressed by the functionality offered by VoIP.
AMI also believes that mobile technology will be used more and more by businesses over the coming months. In fact, shipments of SME notebooks are expected to increase by a fifth over the course of 2007.
Growth in this sector is being allowed to flourish because of the increased rollout of public wireless internet, which allows businesspeople to do more business on the move.
Software-as-a-service (SaaS) is also due to play an important role in the SME IT market, AMI believes, as vendors of this technology continue to spell out the benefits for end-users.
The amount spent on SaaS will increase by 19 per cent over the coming five years, it is thought.
