IT services set to benefit from the global financial crisis include managed IT outsourcing, virtualisation and business continuity and disaster recovery facilities, according to a new study.
Research carried out by industry analyst IDC suggests green IT and virtualisation are measures to improve managed data centre efficiencies that will enable companies to reduce infrastructure costs.
The analysis also indicated managed IT outsourcing will benefit from firms looking to reduce non-discretionary technology expenditure.
Marcel Warmerdam, research director of European IT markets at IDC, said: "We are likely to see a major shift in the type of IT spending as users increasingly focus on cost reduction and gaining efficiencies. In fact, despite the troublesome short-term picture, there are a few silver linings."
Earlier this week, Data Storage Connection claimed virtualisation can simplify the management of disaster recovery while lowering power consumption and overhead costs.
The company added that business continuity plans can include hundreds of detailed steps, from changing cable configurations to bringing recovery site servers online in the proper order.
