Organisations are finding making use of virtualisation technology can improve disaster recovery systems, it has been claimed.
Leeds Partnership's NHS Foundation Trust began implementing virtualisation in 2007 to modernise its IT infrastructure and found it has been able to increase resource utilisation, improve service delivery, lower costs and management overheads and improve disaster recovery.
Russell Hornshaw, IT manager at the organisation, said: "The data and applications we deliver must be secure and highly available in order for our staff to deliver the best possible levels of care to patients and virtualisation is a key technology in our overall strategy."
He added that like all NHS trusts, the group is under pressure to keep costs down while still providing a very high level of service to users.
Earlier this week, PublicTechnology.net reported South Gloucestershire council is putting in place virtualised disaster recovery systems in an attempt to reduce the organisation's carbon footprint while maintaining an effective IT security system.
