PAN Manager
PAN Manager: PAN Manager is Egenera's management software for aggregating pools of compute, storage and network resources into a Processing Area Network (PAN) similar in architecture to unified computing systems. An XML-based specification, called an "abstract server definition", specifies a portable definition of system and application software along with associated PAN resource components such as network and storage addresses. The server definition capability allows IT administrators using PAN Manager to assign applications to any physical server or virtual server within the PAN for purposes of server provisioning, application availability and disaster recovery. The natural evolution of virtualization and server management has led to what industry experts call converged infrastructure (CI). Forrester defines it as:
“…a pooled and virtualized combination of servers, edge networking, and storage, with built-in virtualization abstractions for the physical layer of infrastructure (not to be confused with hypervisor-type virtual machines) and integrated management. CI implies the ability to pool resources, stream ... read more

The recent "robo-signing" debacle illustrates the need. ... read more

From the perspective of IT, VDI promises reduced costs thus boosting the bottom line and making IT look like heroes. This is the nirvana of virtually every corporation in the world. And while the ben ... read more
