More firms 'turning to enterprise resource planning'

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions are seeing an increase in interest from companies despite the economic downturn, it has been revealed.

According to ERP.com, a firm which brings together ERP, Customer Relationship Management and software as a service (SaaS) providers, the trend is the result of the emergence of less capital-intensive products on the market that are helping firms drive down their costs.

  • Chance Berry, enterprise software analyst at the organisation, commented: "We are seeing an upbeat tone in this particular sector because vendors of enterprise solutions are focusing on hard cost savings that Enterprise Resource Planning software can deliver to companies in the short term as well as in the long run."

    Sam Patel, director of sales at Central Desktop, an SaaS-based collaboration software vendor, added that product innovations such as software on demand and SaaS solutions are making enterprise solutions affordable and companies more willing to use them.

    Last week, IT industry analyst Frost and Sullivan claimed ERP providers able to offer value-added products and services will prosper despite the difficult economic climate.
