Ask ten people 'What is marketing automation?', and you're likely to get ten different responses. But for us, the following definition from Econsultancy does a good job:
"Marketing automation is a platform that supports the marketing process, enabling targeted communications that nurture leads until they are sales ready, better management of marketing programmes and the ability to measure marketing impact on revenue. It is the invisible back-end technology that enables better, faster, more relevant, more accountable marketing on the frontend.”
In other words, marketing automation enables marketers to adopt an integrated approach to generating, nurturing and converting leads into customers by automating various marketing techniques and processes to optimise the marketing-sales pipeline. It is rapidly becoming a standard practice, with an increasing number of organisations turning to marketing automation to solve problems, such as diminishing lead quality, proving marketing’s contribution to the sales pipeline, and difficulty evaluating a lead’s readiness for sale.
